My Most Significant Bloggable Event in 2010

Here is my entry for Winston's Week 1 of his Christmas Giveaway.

I started blogging just this year, particularly May 17, 2010. I was really noob at blogging that time, then, I found out that there will be a gathering of bloggers on May 22, the 1st Cebu Blog Camp 2010. Eager to learn more about blogging, I registered together with my already-blogger friends.

Farewell Party?!

Last Friday, October 22, 2010, I received an letter from our Barangay's SK Chairman. The letter, which was attached with a stub separated in 3 parts that says "AM Snacks, Lunch, PM Snacks", states that there will be a farewell party for the SK on Sunday, October 24, 2010, and all youth ages 18-25 are invited. The party will be held at a certain BEACH RESORT located in the southern part of Cebu. Transportation and food are provided and the meeting time is 7:00 AM. I really don't want to go because of the fear that I cannot relate to the other youth who will come but due to boring days before the farewell party, I decided to attend.

Have you seen a ceramic figurine in the backseat of a car? Have you asked your mom where did you placed your brain? Or how about playing chess all alone?

Well, I haven't tried that though... ^_^

A Cosplayer wanna-be at HobCon 2010

My dream to become a cosplayer is almost in my hands. Last October 10, 2010, I was one being mezmerized by the cosplayers during HobCon 2010. Together with Jarlou Valenzuela, we endlessly took pictures of cosplayers portraying their favorite characters.

Ok! Enough of the talk. Let's go with the proof; Pictures!

Me with my fave character in Avatar: Toft!!!

Mark Monta, Kai Veloso and me doing a KAWAII pose!

Thank you Kakashi for lending me your book!!! Ahehehe

Wizard from Ragnarok, Kawaii girl (she really looks like Hannah Gitgano!), and me on a KAWAII mode.

I must say, she was one of my favorite cosplayers that time.

Haha! The Marks! ME pretending to be a cosplayer...

Jarlou Valenzuela and me. Serious jud? Hehe

My favorites in Naruto: Tenten and Kakashi

Sabakyu no Gaara (Gaara of the Desert[Don't mind the spelling...])

Technologian Reunyl Cordero in his first cosplay!

CBS Friends: Kai, Rabsin, and Angeli (Take Note: I am not a CBS Member ok!)

Because of this pic, Rabsin decided to be a cosplayer someday.

BIJOUX CEBU 2010: Asia's Destination for Green Jewelry

The Fashion Accessories Manufacturers and Exporters Foundation Philippines (FAME Foundation), seeking to maximize the growing global demand for eco-friendly products, has been holding an annual trade show for Philippine fashion accessories since 2008. This year, they are organizing Bijoux Cebu.
"Bijoux Cebu" (from the French word Bijoux which means jewelry) will be happening at Shangri-la's Mactan Resort and Spa on September 18-20, 2010. It is a trade show featuring our exporters' Spring-Summer 2011 Collections, with a theme that revolves around the nature's 4 basic elements: earth, air, fire and water.

"The demand for all types of eco-friendly products has never been greater and this is equally true for fashion accessories. While other countries scramble to add eco-friendly products to their current lines, our exporters have the distinct advantage of already using eco-friendly materials derived from our country's natural resources for the past 30 years. As part of our industry's growth we now make and use more green components on our products. We even use recycled and waste materials. We are now building our reputation as Asia's destination for green jewelry and through Bijoux Cebu, we hope to strengthen it even more." says Zeny Uy, Bijoux Cebu Chairman.

The show is targeting foreign buyers all over the world, especially those countries who advocate green living. Foreign buyers have already been registering to attend the show as early as June of this year.
One of the trade show participants showcasing their eco-friendly accessories.
Bijoux Cebu is targeting 200 buyers this year, with exhibitors numbering almost 40. This is about half of all the member exporters of FAME Foundation. Uy explained that 40 exhibitors is already a big number, seeing that usually only half of that figure join foreign shows abroad. "Only a few exporters can join foreign shows due to the high costs involved. This is why Bijoux Cebu is the better alternative for them, as well as for the buyers who can see more exhibitors and have more products to choose from."

The event also features additional attractions and enhancements including daily fashion shows, craft demonstrations, design competitions, and highlighted by a gala night for the buyers at the Provincial Capitol Hall. Aside from the trade show, FAME Foundation is also holding a lifestyle Garden Bazaar at Shangri-la's gardens. Accommodating 100 exhibitors, this will give foreign buyers and resort guests a unique shopping  experience and it is also open to the public.

The exporter's show opens daily from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on September 18-20, 2010. The Garden Bazaar opens daily from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm on the same dates. Admission is free.

A free shuttle service is also provided for 3 days. Ayala Center Cebu departures are at 9:00 am and 2:00 pm daily, while return trips from Shangri-la are at 11:00 am and 4:00 pm daily. SM schedules are still being finalized as of this moment.

This event is organized by FAME Foundation Philippines, with the help and support of PhilExport Cebu, Export Development Council, DTI, DENR, DOST, DOT, Cebu Provincial Government, and Cebu City Government. PJ Aranador is the show's creative designer, with event coordinator by Crinnovent Corp.

FAME Foundation Launches New Green Waters Program

The Fashion Accessories Manufacturers and Exporters Foundation Philippines (FAME Foundation) launched Green Waters, phase 2 of Go Green Philippines.

Go Green Philippines is a sustainable environment program that aims to revitalize the Philippine ecosystem and sustain the Philippine fashion accessories industry at the same time. Phase 1 of the project was reforestation called the Green Earth which was officially launched last October 2007. This way, FAME Foundation has planted 125,000 trees on 50 hectares of public land.

Now, Go Green Philippines is ready to launch phase 2, otherwise known as the Green Waters. It aims to create marine sanctuaries and preserve our coral reefs.

With September declared as the Month of the Ocean, Green Waters program was officially launched last September 18, 2010 on the first day of Bijoux Cebu, FAME Foundation’s fashion accessories trade show at Shangri-la’s Mactan Resort and Spa.

“The Philippine fashion accessories industry relies on our country’s vast natural resources as the raw materials for our products. While our members have always been responsible in the selection and use of natural resources in the past, we have been wanting to go beyond responsible use and start advocating responsible stewardship. Through Go Green Philippines, we now expand our responsibility to ensure the sustainability of our natural resources and to support grassroots communities connected to the resources we use. ” said Janet Chua, FAME Foundation President and Go Green Philippines Chairman.

Green Earth, the first phase of the Go Green Philippines, has been well-accepted by the international community. Most of the project’s funding came from foreign buyers who liked it very much and pledged their support when it was introduced to them. FAME Foundation is confident that the exporters’ buyers will support Green Waters just like how Green Earth was supported.
FAME Foundation will also be working with Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region VII, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Local Government Units, academic institutions, and People’s Organizations.

“Our primary purpose is to preserve the shells of our seas and oceans. We will be focusing on shells used as accessories. The marine sanctuaries we establish for these shells will be the first of its kind, as existing marine sanctuaries focus edible shells for human consumption. FAME Foundation will also be partnering with a People’s Organization for the daily maintenance of the marine sanctuaries. By partnering with People’s Organizations, we give them livelihood opportunities, basic education and skills trainings, and also teach them to responsible stewardship over nature. This way, local grassroots communities can also be benefit from our projects.” Chua explained.

Through Green Waters, Fame Foundation also advocates the preservation of the Coral Triangle, which has the world’s richest concentration of corals and sea life. It got its name because of the area’s triangular shape within the marine waters of the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Timor-Leste. Of all of these countries, the Philippines currently hosts the largest colonies of the world’s tropical shellfishes.

The launching of the Green Waters program was highlighted by the presence of the Go Green Ambassadors:

  • Go Green Ambassador for Air – Environmentalist Adrien Semblat
  • Go Green Ambassador for Fire – Model Isabelle Daza
  • Go Green Ambassador for Earth – Miss Earth 2008 Karla Paula Henry
  • Go Green Ambassador for Water – Actor Richard Gutierrez

A Simple Guideline for your Upcoming College Adventure.

Summer 2010 is about to close while the opening of classes is fast approaching. Some students are ecstatic and excited, some felt their summer period was not enough to the point they decide to extend it for at least 1 day. I remember my first day of my College days, it was both exciting and nerve-wracking, and the following semester of my first semester of my College life. Because I shifted to another course, I need to adopt and blend to my new classmates which is not easy.
A lot of incoming freshmen students told me that they are not yet ready to enter the world of College. Because of that, I made up some tips on how to kick off one's College life:

  1. Put your smiley face on, ALWAYS!

    - Having this kind of mask always creates a positive first impression. As the saying goes, "First impressions last.", so better start building friendship with a smile switched on.
  2. Start the talk.

    - The person sitting beside you feels the same way like you do, so better hook up with a new friend by introducing yourself. Always remember, the best way to start a conversation is a smart talk. Don't rush in for some personal facts about him/her, it's still first day of class. You can know him better as the day goes by.

  1. Never miss the first!

    - Missing the first day of classes is a habit a student should never learn. If you do it, it's like missing a piece of a puzzle. Some important matters might be discussed on this day or the tallying of the attendance starts on the first day. This might cause you regret that you will carry for the entire semester which is not healthy for your mind. Formulation of the seat plan is mostly done during the first day, so hunt for that perfect spot.

  2. Approach the shy, avoid the boastful.

    - Learn to be like a public-relations officer. Approach the shy ones so that they feel that there is nothing to be ashamed of. But like high school, you can't eliminate the bullies. People like them must be dealt by giving 50% attention and 50% avoidance, meaning, learn when to talk to them and when not to talk to them.

  3. Think positive!

    - You can never go wrong with an optimistic mood. Dealing the first day with a positive mind is , for me, the safest weapon you can carry.

  4. In terms of socializing with other people, College differ from high school. The best way to ease the jitters you experience beforehand is start the day with a good mood and end it with new set of friends.

The Successful Cebu Blog Camp 2010!

May 22 was the biggest day of my life so far if I were to relate it to blogging. Having a very young blog, I am so honored to be one of the participants who joined the successful Cebu Blog Camp 2010. At first it was kinda bit awkward since in terms of blogging, I am the youngest, but later on as we started the event, everything went very smooth. The lectures gave me lots of inputs; from blogging basics, blogging ethics, Google AdSense, Citizens' Journalism, Wordpress, and so much more.

I also enjoyed the games and activities the organizers have in store for us.
I enjoyed the first game we had which is dressing our teammate into a LADY GAGA using 5 newspapers. Although we didn't win the game, but we had fun!

The second-to-the-last model is our LAGY GAGA! ^_^

We didn't go home without filling our bags full of freebies!

The event was also the perfect time to socialize with other Cebuano-bloggers and exchange URLs with them.
In the end, all went home with smiles on their faces, new online and offline friends, and inputs that will be helpful in the near future. Thanks again Cebu Blog Camp 2010! Until the next one!

Cebu Blog Camp 2010 is an event organized by a group of Cebu Bloggers.

As I enter the world of blogging...

Whenever I go and surf the Internet, I sometimes read the blogs of my friends. I find it interesting and then on, I keep on reading them as time goes by. Then, I finally decided that I should make a blog of my own. Since then, I gathered information from my blogger friends. Until then, I created the page that I called "Mark's Lounge."

I created this blog site because I believe this is my way of expressing my ideas and thoughts to other people. I may not be good at blogging but with the help of my blogger friends, I definitely can improve my blogging skills. Not to mention the Cebu Blog Camp this coming Saturday, May 22.
I am very positive that this camp will help me improve my skills in blogging.
